SALVADOR

Brazil’s former first capital boasts a culture as bright as its buildings and tropical coastline. Now the capital of Brazil’s Bahia state, Salvador is renowned for its vibrant neighborhoods, stylish monuments and warm hospitality.

Pelourinho is Salvador's UNESCO-listed historic centre. Its cobblestone streets, hold much history and traditions.

Recommended for visitors:

  • Lacerda Elevator was originally completed in 1873, the elevator was later refreshed in 1930 with Art Deco stylings – adding an unmistakable flair to the Salvador skyline. Connecting the high and low parts of the city, the Lecerda Elevator also offers sweeping views of the Bay of All Saints. Take a ride yourself and capture some cityscape and seaside pictures.

  • Mercado Modelo, a market featuring hundreds of stalls selling local arts and crafts.

  • Feira de São Joaquim is one of the largest open markets in Brazil and its history goes back hundreds of years to the times when Salvador was the capital of enslaved Africans and their descendants in South America.
